The National Council of Khmer Language, under the Royal Academy of Cambodia, is a distinguished national institution dedicated to the preservation and advancement of the Khmer language and script, playing a vital role in the conservation of Cambodia's national identity.

The Council operates through 17 specialized technical committees covering a wide array of fields such as Agriculture, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, Vocabulary and Loanwords, Philosophy, History, Information Technology, Linguistics, Geography, Cultural and Fine Arts, Political Science, Economic Science, Educational Sciences, Health Science, Architecture and Construction, Spelling and Reading, and Literature. Each committee meticulously curates terminology specific to its domain, including defining technical terms, crafting new vocabulary based on French or English equivalents where applicable, and maintaining a comprehensive technical database. The compilation undergoes thorough scrutiny by the Council before final authorization.

Approved terminologies are compiled into glossaries for public access. In tandem with technological advancements aimed at broadening the reach of the Khmer language to scholars and readers globally, the National Council of Khmer Language has introduced innovative digital tools. The development of an online dictionary software and a smartphone application reflects the Council’s commitment to modern communication channels.
